Transit

27 May

I’ve decided to return to Blogger because, well, I like to mix things up. Not in the get-things-wrong kind of way, though I understand how you could be mistaken.

It’s time I got out of this gloomy spot anyway, though it might be a little early to say that; results will be revealed soon, and I have a feeling I’ll plunge back into the dark depths of ineptitude once again. Still, this whole emo-food theme is getting a little stale, so I’m making the transition (link removed). See ya there!

P.S. I do know it’s the Ganges delta, not the delta Ganges.

Making Way

24 May

I have had it up to here with beths! They poo-ed on my books! My new home, when I get one, will be beth-proof! Everything will be sealed and I’ll lace the house openings with beth repellent (Jun, I checked – it’s supposed to deter them from coming in, not kill them.)

For now I’ll settle for a new shelf with doors. I haven’t decided exactly which one yet, but I’ve narrowed my choices down to two from Ikea, and I might check out the neighbourhood furniture store as well.

If no one buys my Cleo mags (I have them up on GumTree), I'll dump them.

Disinfected books lain out to dry

Been lagging very much behind in my reading – as you may observe from the three wrapped books – and this holidays is a great time to catch up!

Hey Pear, look what I’ve got – two bottles of disinfectant! Which means I can disinfect both the bottles! *smug*

On this note, I feel the need to advise all other closet housewives not to try any brand of disinfectant (not hand sanitiser, those are OK) other than Dettol because they most probably stink. I would know.

Books I'm donating to the library because I am a giving person. Not because I need to clear out my bookshelf.

I wonder how I’m gonna lug this container to the library. I definitely do not have the patience to go on separate trips.

Android vs Apple

17 May

Why does the iPhone not have widgets? How can the smartphone market leader not have widgets?! I have been using my iPhone 3G for a couple of months now and I still sorely miss my Android widgets.

I was grumbling about this to XL and BM the other day, and to my surprise, they didn’t know what widgets were! I guess it’s ‘cos they haven’t had the misfortune of losing their phone, so their wealth of phone-tech knowledge stops at the mighty iPhone.

Android widgets

Wiki makes it sound complicated but to me, a widget’s basically an open application that you can affix to any page of your phone. So instead of having to open Safari to google something, you can just flick to your Google Search widget. And instead of having to open up your to-do list app, it’s right there staring at you so you’re constantly reminded.

Honestly, I’m conflicted between returning to HTC and contributing to the iPhone hype.

I really liked having widgets on my HTC Desire, but what bothered me the most was the alarming rate at which it zapped battery. With minimal usage, it barely lasted me a day. Of course I could have bought an additional battery, but something about that just isn’t right; I literally have the web at my fingertips… but I need to physically bring an extra battery? How cumbersome.

Also, Android still falls behind Apple in the applications department, not that that’s supposed to be any surprise.

On the other hand, the newer iPhones (OK, iPhone 4, but I’m imagining that the iPhone 5 will have been released by the time my contract is eligible for renewal) have the multitasking capability, which will come in very handy. The Desire has it too, but its multitasking menu is limited to the last eight apps you use; I flit though different apps but I still want all of them to be on the menu, so the iPhone wins in this aspect. The iPhone also has far more apps, looks sleeker (this would not be an issue if they sold the Nexus One locally. Still not as sleek, but I actually like the trackball) and users get to enjoy The Apple Effect.

However, jailbreaking the iPhone can be a real drag; it took me awhile to find the programme to jailbreak mine. And then Cydia took forever to open. That can be attributed to me not being very tech-savvy and my current phone being a slowpoke though.

I have till October before I can officially renew my contract – hopefully I’ll be able to make a decision by then! Thinking about it, the iPhone 5 might not even be out in Singapore in October, considering that the white iPhone 4 has only recently been released. Oh well, we shall see!

Old School

22 Apr

The exams are here again. I’ve been studying hard, but it’s still not enough. And that really sucks.

Here are a few songs playing at McDonald’s yesterday that brightened my mood. :)

Childhood anthem

Saw this in the sidebar. Sorry, this was The Anthem.

.

Alright, see ya in two weeks.

Hunted

28 Mar

YES!!!! Cheers, mate!

It’s kinda funny how they kill them, read more about it here. Best to shut your eyes and scroll first if you don’t like icky creatures – be forewarned!

Singapore is in dire need of a beth hunt; they might not be poisonous, but they could cause heart attacks! I’m convinced another beth birth just took place in my house cos I saw three teeny beths scrambling about the other day. Was unfortunate enough to meet it’s mum and aunt on another two occasions. Three days straight, four if I include the photo Mag tagged me in.

Argh, ROT IN HELL YOU SQUIGGLY SUCKERS!

Post-Projects!

24 Mar

So I was confused as to what preloved means, because people sell “preloved” stuff online. The general idea is that the clothes you sell are new, so describing something as whatever-loved leads me to think that it’s secondhand. But as you know, pre is more or less used to describe before something happens (and not previously, although now that I type it out, I realise that previously starts with pre too). E.g. pre-menstrual syndrome, pre-ejaculation, prevention. For some reason my thoughts seem to head down south, but I assure you I’m in high spirits today. :D

pre-

a prefix occurring originally in loanwords from Latin, where it meant“before” ( preclude; prevent );  applied freely as a prefix, withthe meanings “prior to,” “in advance of,” “early,” “beforehand,”“before,” “in front of,” and with other figurative meanings (preschool; prewar; prepay: preoral; prefrontal ).

Well I’ve finally looked up the word, and it indeed means secondhand. Or at least in Australia it does.

Post-trauma, post-mortem… So why not post-loved? ‘Cos you probably don’t love it anymore, that’s why you wanna sell it, no?  Funny.

Anyway, I am so glad that projects are finally over! Time for mindless web-surfing, mahjong, a good read and sleep!
